Municipal Construction

Durable, Cost-Effective Structures Designed for Public Works, Storage, Recreation, and Operational Efficiency

Cities, counties, and public agencies need building solutions that are cost-effective, versatile, and built to perform in demanding environments. We deliver engineered fabric building solutions designed to support a wide range of municipal needs — from road salt and sand storage to equipment storage, composting operations, event spaces, covered ice rinks, public works facilities, and more.

Fabric buildings offer exceptional flexibility and can be engineered to meet local snow and wind loads while accommodating varying occupancy requirements based on each application. Their clear-span design maximizes usable space, allows for easy equipment access, and provides long-lasting protection for valuable municipal assets and materials.

With deep expertise in fabric building design and construction, Greystone’s Fabric Building Division works closely with municipalities to identify the right solution for their operational needs, budget, and long-term goals. Whether your community needs a storage facility, recreation space, or specialized operational structure, our team is ready to deliver a high-performance solution built to serve your municipality for years to come.

FEATURED PROJECTS

Willmar, Minnesota Outdoor Covered Ice Rinks

Willmar, Minnesota Outdoor Covered Ice Rink

The GC Fabric Building Division recently completed this 117' x 232' fabric structure for the City of Willmar, Minnesota, to serve as a premium ice rink cover. The fabric roof allows natural lighting, creating a bright and inviting environment while protecting the rink from snow, rain, and harsh weather. Engineered for durability and efficiency, this structure extends the skating season and reduces maintenance, making it an ideal solution for municipal recreation facilities.

Madelia, Minnesota Event Fabric Tent

The GC Fabric Building Division delivered a 53' x 80' fabric shelter for events for the City of Madelia, Minnesota. The building features two 10' framed openings on each end and an additional framed opening along the side, providing excellent accessibility and airflow. With its bright, translucent fabric cover, the shelter naturally illuminates the interior throughout the day, creating an inviting, energy‑efficient space ideal for public events and outdoor activities.

Clermont County, Ohio Equipment Storage Building

Batavia, Ohio Equipment Storage Building

The GC Fabric Building Division recently wrapped up two equipment storage buildings in Batavia, Ohio. These buildings are 36' at the peak including the 5' poured wall foundations which provides ample clear height for day-to-day operations. The eaves on these structures add extra protection from the elements and can make a building more functional by providing a dry area for loading or storage.

Our old shelter we had for storing salt held about 150-175 tons, and when we had three or four weekends in a row last January, we ran out of salt. With the help of the new facility, running out of salt in no longer a concern. Kevin Keifferon, Public Works Assistant Director, City of Greenville, NC

Lawrence, Kansas Fabric Covered Buildings

The GC Fabric Building Division completed two 80' × 80' fabric covered buildings for the City of Lawrence, Kansas. Each 6,400‑square‑foot fabric building features four mesh end wall vents to promote proper airflow and ventilation, along with hot‑dipped galvanized building components designed for long‑term durability and corrosion resistance.

Albany, Oregon Commercial Composting Facility

Albany, Oregon Commercial Composting Facility

The City of Albany’s commercial composting facility uses durable, weather‑protected structures to support high‑volume organic waste handling, with organized compost bays, efficient equipment access, natural ventilation, and clear spans designed for large machinery and long‑term material management.

Greenville, North Carolina Road Salt Storage

The GC Fabric Building Division built a road salt storage building for the City of Greenville in North Carolina utilizing a fabric structure. The City of Greenville was looking for a larger fabric covered salt storage building, as their previous facility could only hold about 175 tons. With the completion of their new 41' x 60' building, they can now store up to 780 tons of road salt—over four times their previous capacity.

The fabric building option came in at a lower cost compared to a traditional salt shed while still meeting our goals. The building design allows for easy machinery operations within and around all sides of the structure. Greystone provided a great product with great service. Through all steps of the process, Greystone was great to work with and provided the best experience to our team. Mike Gubka, Superintendent of Streets and Parks
